Flagler uses second half surge to roll past Webber

ST. AUGUSTINE – Cortlin Davis scored 17 of his game-high 23 points in the second half to help lead Flagler to a 102-80 rout of Webber International University in a non-conference men's basketball game Monday night at Flagler Gymnasium.

Flagler improved to 2-1 on the season while Webber International, an NAIA Division II school, fell to 2-8. The two schools used to be rivals in the former Florida Sun Conference (now The Sun Conference).

The Saints were playing its first game in almost two weeks. The score was tied five times and there were eight lead changes in the first 20 minutes of play. A 3-pointer at the buzzer by Jacob Ward tied the score at 38.

Midway through the second half, Flagler went on a 28-7 run which spanned just over five minutes. Chris Williams' layup in the post with 7:04 left in the game got the run started and Davis and Jeffercy Jean followed with transition baskets. Vaughn McCall completed the run with a pair of free throws which gave Flagler a 102-73 lead with two minutes left.

Davis dished out a season-best five assists to add to his line. McCall nearly doubled his point total for the season as he poured in 22 with the help of four 3-pointers. Jean finished with a career-high 21 points and completed the double-double with 10 rebounds. He also tallied a career-high five steals. Williams recorded his second double-double of the season with a season-high 19 points and he grabbed 11 rebounds. Williams entered the game with 20 points in two games. Austin Howard tallied 13 points and dished out seven assists.

Flagler shot a season-best 50% (37-74) from the field and out-scored the Webber International in the second half 64-42. The Saints shot at a 51.2% clip in the second half. Flagler forced 21 turnovers and cashed them in for 31 points. The Saints grabbed 16 offensive rebounds and scored and extra 25 points off of those opportunities. Flagler recorded a total of nine dunks, seven of which came in the second half.

Daniel Coffey scored a team-high 21 points for the Warriors. Johnathan Childs and Joelle Bigham added 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Flagler returns to action on Thursday (Dec. 1) against Florida College at 7 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
