ST. AUGUSTINE –
Oscar Davidsson got Flagler College on the board with a goal in the 15
th minute and the Saints never looked back for a 3-1 victory over the University of North Georgia in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Saturday afternoon at Saints Field.
Flagler won its third consecutive match to improve to 3-5-1 overall and 3-2-0 in the Peach Belt. North Georgia had its two-match win streak snapped and fell to 5-6-0 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Davidsson knocked in his third goal of the season when he gathered
Juan Membreno's corner kick near the goal line and tapped the ball into the back of the net.
The score would remain 1-0 going into the half.
The Saints added to its lead in the 54
th minute when
Graham Grassmyer scored his first collegiate goal.
Pedro Silva, just inside the box, headed a lob pass from the near sideline, to a wide open Grassmyer who was cutting to the goal to give Flagler a 2-0 lead.
In the 61
st minute, Flagler received a gifted goal as a pass into the box, right in front of the North Georgia goal, got deflected into the net by a Nighthawk defender giving the Saints a 3-0 advantage.
With 39 second left in the match, Daniel Joyce prevented the shutout as he scored off of a Matt Shaftoe pass.
Lex Craggs tallied six saves in net for the Saints while Michael Samnik collected the same amount for the Nighthawks.
Flagler out-shot North Georgia 16-11, but the Nighthawks held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks. North Georgia was called for 10 of the match's 16 fouls.
Flagler will take on the University of South Carolina Aiken on Wednesday (Oct. 5) at 6 p.m. at Aiken.
