ST. AUGUSTINE –
Keith Gray scored a season-high 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds, but it wasn't enough as Flagler College was defeated by the University of North Carolina Pembroke 87-73 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.
UNC Pembroke snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 11-10 overall and 5-7 in the Peach Belt. Flagler has now lost five straight and fell to 6-14 overall and 2-10 conference play.
UNCP got a game-high 24 points out of Alex Bradley who also tallied seven assists. Jihad Wright added 19 points and eight rebounds while Brandon Watts tacked on 16 points. Brandon Winford grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds.
The Braves out-rebounded the Saints 50-31 and 26 of those 50 rebounds came at the offensive end. UNCP scored 33 points off of those 26 offensive rebounds.
UNCP did not trail in the game and held a 44-32 lead at the half. The Braves made 53.1% (17-32) of their shots in the second half alone.
Matt Clark added 16 points, on the strength of four 3-pointers, and had five assists and three rebounds.
Vaughn McCall came off the bench to add 13 points.
Jeffercy Jean grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Flagler hosts Armstrong State University on Wednesday (Feb. 3) at 7:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium. It will be "Anastasia Fitness Night" on Wednesday.
