ST. AUGUSTINE – Herbert Graham led six Armstrong State University players in double-figure scoring with 18 points in a 93-77 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at Flagler Gymnasium.
The Pirates improve to 8-12 overall and 6-7 in the Peach Belt. Flagler dropped to 6-15 overall and 2-11 in conference play.
An early 14-2 run by the Pirates wiped out a 7-5 lead by the Saints and the Pirates never looked back. Both teams got off to a cold start, but Armstrong took an early 5-0 lead.
Matt Clark took a
Nick Grier pass and drove to the hoop for a layup to give the Saints a short-lived 7-5 lead with 14:26 left in the half. Graham drained a 3-pointer and that ignited the run by the Pirates.
Armstrong held a 44-34 lead at the half.
The Saints trimmed the lead to nine (54-45) after a dunk by Grier, but the Pirates answered with a 15-6 run to take command with just under nine minutes to go.
Shema Sabiiti and Loren Hall each scored 14 points for the Pirates. Hall added six assists. Kwei Lartey contributed 11 points, five assists and four rebounds while Brian Brown and Ethan Mackey each tallied 10 points. Mackey scored all of his points in the first half. Jamison Jeffers tallied a game-high seven assists.
The Pirates shot 62.1% (18-29) in the second-half alone. Armstrong finished with a 54.7 percent mark from the field for the game. Armstrong made 10 3-pointers. The Pirates grabbed 11 offensive rebounds which led to 18 second chance points.
Clark led the Saints with a game-high 19 points and he added five rebounds.
Keith Gray tallied 17 points and grabbed six rebounds while Grier contributed 13 points and had four steals.
Keshaun Hamilton and
Ben Bobbitt scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Jeffercy Jean tallied a team-high five assists.
Flagler will look to snap its losing streak on the road with a tough test on Saturday at Francis Marion University in a 3:30 p.m. tip.
