GREENWOOD, S.C. – A quick start by Flagler College was quickly quelled by Lander University as five Bearcats scored in double figures to defeat the Saints 85-58 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Horne Arena.

Lander raised its overall record to 10-3 and it remains undefeated in conference play at 4-0. Flagler fell to 4-7 overall and 0-3 in the Peach Belt.

The Saints opened the game on a quick 8-2 spurt, but the Bearcats answered with a 22-6 rally of its own over the next 7:09 to take control of the game. Lander led 45-32 at the half.

JR Washington scored a game-high 17 points and collected four steals to lead Lander. Tyree King came off the bench to provide 14 points while Tobiasz Hose and Matthew McClain each contributed 12 points. McClain also grabbed six rebounds. Rahu Purdie chipped in with 10 points and Travis Fredimon added seven points and dished out six assists.

The Bearcats forced 17 Flagler turnovers and cashed those in for 23 points. Lander also scored 14 points in transition.

Nick Grier scored a team-high 14 points for the Saints. Keshaun Hamilton added 10 points and seven rebounds while Matt Clark tacked on 10 points with the help of three 3-pointers. Keith Gray came off the bench to grab a game-high 11 rebounds and added seven points.

Flagler plays host to the University of South Carolina Aiken on Monday (Jan. 4) at 3:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium. Flagler has not played a home game since Dec. 1 when it thrashed Ave Maria University 90-55.
