Saints’ second half rally leads to 72-70 win

ST. AUGUSTINE – Matt Clark scored 15 of his game-high 25 points in the second half while Keshaun Hamilton scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half as well to rally Flagler College past the University of South Carolina Aiken 72-70 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Monday night at Flagler Gymnasium.

Flagler snapped its four-game losing streak and improved to 5-7 overall and 1-3 in the Peach Belt. USC Aiken dropped its fifth game in a row and fell to 2-9 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

The Saints only led for 4-minutes and 42-seconds in the game, which was close to the mark in the second half when they made their run. With the Pacers leading 57-56, Clark went coast-to-coast with a driving layup to give the Saints the lead for good, 58-57 and ignited a 10-0 run. Hamilton scored six points in row in that spurt.

The Pacers were victimized by shooting only 47.4% (9-19) from the free throw line. USC Aiken led at the half, 31-24.

Clark sank three triples and made 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Hamilton grabbed a team-high 12 and added four blocked shots. Keith Gray added nine points and nine rebounds.     

The Saints shot 48.5% (16-33) in the second half.

Arbry Butler recorded a double-double with 21 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. He dished out five assists and had three blocked shots. Jevon Patton tallied 21 points and four assists while Keith Belfield added 18 points with the help of four three-pointers.

Flagler hosts Francis Marion University on Wednesday (Jan. 6) at 7:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
