MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Trailing 2-0 early, Flagler College rallied back to tie the match at 2-all and then later 3-all, but Pfeiffer University scored with 3:12 left in the second overtime to come away with a 4-3 win Monday afternoon at N.E. Lefko Field.
The Falcons, picked to finish second in Conference Carolinas, improved to 2-0 on the season. The Saints fell to 0-1-1.
Pfeiffer took an early 2-0 lead after goals by Jaime Siaj (12') and Roberto Soares (17') nearly five minutes later.
Oscar Davidsson got the Saints on the board with a goal in the 36
th minute and that 2-1 score would stand going into the half.
Juan Membreno scored the equalizer in the 66
th minute, but Siaj scored his second goal of the game for Pfeiffer in the 76
th minute to give the Falcons the lead again, 3-2.
Pedro Silva followed with a goal from a
Jonny Cosgrove assist, his second of the match, in the 83
rd minute to know the game at 3-all.
That score would stand until Nathan Regis' header off of a pass from Martim Galvao in the 107
th minute found the back of the net to end the match.
Nicolas Dulac recorded two saves for the Falcons while
Lex Craggs tallied six saves for the Saints.
Pfeiffer out-shot Flagler 21-13. Both teams had seven corner kicks. Flagler was whistled for 19 fouls while Pfeiffer incurred 14 fouls.
Up next for the Saints will be its Peach Belt Conference opener against Francis Marion University on Saturday (Sept. 12) at 7 p.m.at Saints Field.
