AMERICUS, Ga. –
Jess Fassnidge and
Morgan Vidrine both scored a goal and tallied an assist in Flagler College's 5-0 victory over Georgia Southwestern State University in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Wednesday afternoon at Hurricane Field.
Flagler raised its record to 4-1-1 overall and 2-1-0 in the Peach Belt. Georgia Southwestern fell to 2-6-0 overall and 0-3-0 in conference play.
Fassnidge got the Saints on the board quickly with a goal in the 11
th minute.
Katie Kaim provided the assist.
Grace Rineer scored her first collegiate goal in the 40
th minute, a header off of a feed from Vidrine. The score would remain 2-0 at the half.
Cassie Fernandez netted her second goal of the season when she scored off of a pass from Fassnidge in the 61
st minute.
The Saints closed by scoring two goals in the span of 42 seconds. The first was an own goal for Flagler and then Vidrine scored unassisted to give the Saints a 5-0 in the 66
th minute.
Racheal Cecil turned in her first clean sheet as she tallied three saves for the Saints. Elyse Gowen tallied 10 saves in the first half for the Hurricanes. Emily Jones added six more saves in the second half and Chelsee Wright added one more in less than two minutes of work.
Flagler dominated on the offensive end out-shooting Georgia Southwestern 37-3. The Saints took 17 corner kicks while the Hurricanes had zero.
Flagler will head to the University of North Carolina Pembroke for another Peach Belt Conference match on Saturday (Oct. 3) at 5 p.m.
