Saints hold off pesky Pacers, 3-2

AIKEN, S.C. – Flagler College scored a pair of first half goals, and another one in the second half, while having to withstand a late rally by the University of South Carolina Aiken to hold on to a 3-2 win in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Wednesday afternoon at Pacer Pit.

Flagler improved to 5-1-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the Peach Belt. USC Aiken lost its third match in a row and dropped to 1-8-0 overall and 1-4 in conference play.

Kaela Harmon got the Saints on the board as she scored her first goal of the season in the sixth minute. Brooke DeLauder sent her corner kick into the box where it was received by Fio Fustagno who managed to find Harmon through a scramble for the ball in the box.

Abby Austin netted her third goal of the season when she scored off of a Fustagno feed in the 15th minute.

Fustagno scored her first goal as a Saint in the 68th minute to push Flagler's lead to 3-0. Austin threaded a pass to Fustagno who blasted the shot into the back of the net from just outside the penalty area.

Just three minutes later, Akeyla Furbert got the Pacers on the board and then Hannah Allison headed in Jenna Beauregard's corner kick in the 80th minute to make it a one-goal game.

Neither team was able to get a shot off in the final 10 minutes.

Racheal Cecil tallied two saves for the Saints while Karin Cadwalader recorded two saves for the Pacers.

Flagler out-shot USC Aiken 9-7 and each team took six corner kicks.

Flagler returns home to face the University of Montevallo on Saturday (Oct. 10) at 5 p.m. at Saints Field in another Peach Belt Conference tilt.
