ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College used a balanced offensive attack to sweep the University of North Carolina Pembroke 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-17) in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match Friday night at Flagler Gymnasium.
Flagler improved to 8-2 overall and 1-0 in the Peach Belt. UNC Pembroke dropped to 3-12 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
Sara Davis recorded eight kills, three service aces and had two total blocks for the Saints.
Shea Hamilton came off the bench to provide seven kills and hit .385 with only two errors on 13 swings.
Megan Hooks added six kills while
Jenea Reddick tacked on five more.
Tara Savisky tallied 34 assists and eight digs to go along with four kills on as many swings.
Caitlyn Kovach collected six digs.
Flagler hit .304 for the match which included a .378 mark in the third set alone.
Nicole Matthews recorded a match-high 10 kills for the Braves. Caroline Pridgen added seven kills and two total blocks. Josephine Yang collected a match-high 12 digs while Alicia Paeplow tallied nine assists.
UNCP led the first set 11-9 until Flagler went on a 7-3 run to take a 16-14 lead after an attack error by the Braves. Later, Davis recorded three service aces in a row to give the Saints a commanding 21-15 lead. Flagler went on to win 25-17.
After trailing 7-6 in the second set, Flagler rallied off eight straight points, capped by a kill from Reddick, to take a 14-7 lead. UNCP could not get any closer than five points the rest of the way.
The third set went back-and-forth until Flagler's Hamilton broke up a 13-all tie with a couple of powerful kills to help ignite a 5-0 run and the Saints never looked back. Hamilton had five kills in the set and hit .400.
Up next for Flagler will be another conference match, this time against Francis Marion University, tomorrow (Sept. 26) at 2 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
