SAVANNAH, Ga. – No. 14 (
Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II Top 30 Poll) Armstrong State University pounded out 18 hits and scored multiple runs in three innings en route to a 12-7 win over No. 15 Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Sunday afternoon at Pirate Field.
Armstrong salvaged the last game of the series to improve to 27-11 overall and 16-7 in the Peach Belt. Flagler dips to 28-10 overall and 15-8 in conference play, but took the series 2-1. The Saints are 2.5 games behind first place University of North Georgia.

Andrew Brodbeck scored on
Kolin McMillen's double in the first inning.
The Pirates tied the game with a run in the second, but then erupted for four runs in the third to take control. Tyler Avera scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch, then Berry Aldridge and Zach Lance hit back-to-back RBI singles to knock Flagler starter
Nathaniel Abel (2-1) out of the game. Kendrick Thompson greeted Saints reliever
Chris Lake with a double, which scored Aldridge to put the Pirates on top 5-1.
Nick Kranick belted a two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to bring Flagler back to 5-3, but that would be as close as the Saints would get.
The Pirates added three more in the fifth, one in the sixth and three in the seventh.
Flagler was able to tack on a couple of runs late.
Pete Nagel (4-0) allowed six hits and four runs, walked a batter and fanned seven to earn the win. Caleb Woods and Tyler Graham closed out the game for Armstrong.
Cody Sherlin went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs scored and one run batted in. Avera went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored. Aldridge collected three singles, scored two runs and drove in two more. Lance also had three singles, but scored one run and knocked in another.
Abel tossed 2.1 innings and allowed seven hits and five runs. He was one of five pitchers used on the day by Flagler.
Lorenzo Butler paced the 11-hit attack going 3-for-5 with a double and he scored three runs. Kranick went 2-for-5 with the home run and three RBI. McMillen hit a pair of doubles and drove in two runs.
Flagler takes on Florida Southern College on Tuesday (April 14) at 6 p.m. at Henley Field.
