ST. AUGUSTINE – Francis Marion University scored 51 points in the second half and closed the game on a 10-2 run to defeat Flagler College 88-74 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday night at Flagler Gymnasium.
Francis Marion extended its winning streak to three games as it improved to 12-11 overall and 4-10 in the Peach Belt. Both Francis Marion and Flagler are part of a three-way tie for fifth place in the East Division, just one game out of fourth place. Flagler fell to 7-14 overall and 4-10 in conference play.
Dii'Jon Allen-Jordan scored a game-high 28 points and added seven rebounds to lead the Patriots. Detrek Browning added 15 points and seven boards while Mike Davis, Jr. came off the bench to provide 15 points and dish out a game-high seven assists. A.J. Jackson finished with a double-double, 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Patriots shot 45.9% (28-61) for the game and shot 50% (15-30) in the second half alone. Francis Marion couldn't miss from the free throw line as it made 85.2% (23-27) and was 94.7% (18-19) in the second half.
Jerrell Oxendine scored a career-high 26 points for Flagler.
Keshaun Hamilton added 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists while
Lydell Manigo chipped in with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Matt Clark came off the bench to tally 10 points.
Desmond Gibson grabbed seven rebounds and blocked three shots.
Flagler led at the half 40-37, but struggled to shoot in the second half with a 36.4% (12-33) mark.
Allen-Jordan eliminated the Patriots deficit early in the second half as he scored all of their nine points in a 9-2 run over a 1:30 span. His old-fashioned three-point play, basket and a free throw, gave Francis Marion a 48-44 lead with 15:15 to go.
Hamilton tied the score at 59 with a layup with 9:1 to go, but Francis Marion went on a 10-0 spurt to pull away.
Flagler will visit Georgia Regents University Augusta, who is tied atop the division with UNC Pembroke, on Wednesday (Feb. 11) at 7:30 p.m.
