ST. AUGUSTINE – Caitlyn Calhoun (2-1) faced one batter over the minimum as she tossed a no-hitter to help No. 2 (NFCA Division II Top 25) Valdosta State University to a 7-0 win over Flagler College in a non-conference softball game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Field.
Valdosta State improved to 4-1 on the season while Flagler fell to 2-3.
Calhoun fanned 10 batters and tossed just 94 pitches in seven innings of work.
Lauren Roudabush reached on an error by the Valdosta State second baseman in the first inning and that was all the offense the Saints could muster. Calhoun retired the next 20 batters in order.
All-American outfielder Courtney Albritton gave Calhoun all of the offense she would need with a two-run home run to left field to give the Blazers a 2-0 lead.
Valdosta State added a run in the fifth and four more in the seventh.
Albritton ended the game with a pair of singles to go along with the homer and she scored two runs and drove in three more. Brandy Morgan singled twice, scored two runs and she knocked in two runs. Heather Robinson added two singles.
Katelynn Smith (1-1) tossed 6.1 innings, allowed 10 hits and seven runs. She walked five and struck out four.
Flagler hosts Lee University tomorrow (Feb. 8) at 10 a.m. and then will have a rematch with Valdosta State at 2:30 p.m. at Flagler Field.
