Maddy Murphy knocked a double to right center in the bottom of the ninth inning to score
Lauren Roudabush, as the Flagler College softball team pulled out a 6-5 victory over Lee on Sunday morning at Flagler Field.
The Saints improved to 3-3 on the season, handing Lee its first loss as the Lady Flames fell to 4-1.
Tinsley Smith tossed all nine innings for Flagler and notched three strike outs, while Leigh Beatenbough and Angie Hughes split time in the circle for Lee, with Hughes getting the loss for the Lady Flames.
Lee jumped out in front of the Saints, 5-0, in the fourth inning on four hits and two Flagler errors, but the Saints would answer with a home run over the center field fence from
Kayla Fuller in the bottom of the inning.
After holding the Lady Flames scoreless in the fifth, Flagler used an offensive surge of four hits to score another three runs.
Tori Volz started the bottom of the sixth inning with a single down the right field line, as
Malloree Escue pushed Volz to second on a sacrifice bunt. An illegal pitch from Hughes sent Volz to third, where she then scored the tying run on a pass ball.
In the top of the eighth Lee was in position to score the go-ahead run with NiaRaye Ceasar on third base, but
Mackenzie Conley gunned down pinch hitter Brooke Bailey from right field at first base. Volz started the bottom of the inning on second for the Saints, but after being moved to third on another sacrifice from Escue was picked off at third.
Qiley Lewis was the runner for the Lady Flames in the top of the ninth and a sacrifice bunt from Rachel Polacek placed her on third base, brining Lee to the top of its order. Amanda Lynn drew the walk from Smith, but as she stole second base Lewis was picked off at third by
Mallory Allen. For the final out of the inning Fuller fanned Lewis at the plate from center field on a single up the middle by Lexie Dean.
Murphy ended the game for the Saints crushing a double to the right field fence.
