ST. AUGUSTINE –The No. 23 (NABC Division II Top 25) University of North Carolina Pembroke shot a sizzling 62.3% (43-69) from the field in route to a 105-91 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at Flagler Gymnasium.
The Braves have won five of their last six games to improve to 22-4 overall and 13-4 in the Peach Belt. The Saints lost their fourth game in a row and fell to 9-15 overall and 4-13 in conference play.
UNC Pembroke went on a 20-4 run midway through the first half to wipe out a two-point Flagler lead and open up a 14-point lead (30-16). The Braves made 7 of its nine shots from the field in the 4:44 span.
Keysheen Hinton led five Braves in double-digit scoring with 23 points on 10 of 11 shooting from the field. Ben Jacobs came off the bench to add 22 points and was a perfect 8 for 8 from the free throw line. Brandon Winford contributed 17 points and nine rebounds while Tyler Kordenbrock added 14 points and blocked four shots. Brandon Watts chipped in with 10 points. Quamain Rose flirted with a triple-double as he finished with 10 assists, nine points and six rebounds.
The Braves held a 52-38 lead at the half on the strength of shooting 62.3% (24-38). UNCP out-scored Flagler 54-32 in the paint..
Jerrell Oxendine led five Saints in double-figures with 23 points on 10 of 16 shooting from the field.
Keshaun Hamilton added 15 points while
Lydell Manigo and
Matt Clark each tallied 12 points.
Dennis Diaz deposited 11 points.
Flagler takes on the University of Montevallo on Saturday (Feb. 21) at 3:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
