DAHLONEGA, Ga. –
Matt Clark led five Flagler College players in double-figures with 20 points, but it wasn't enough as the University of North Georgia won 104-87 in a mutual Peach Belt Conference opener Thursday night at Memorial Hall.
North Georgia snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 3-7 overall and 1-0 in the Peach Belt. Flagler lost its second game in a row and fell to 4-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Sean Brennan led six Nighthawks in double-figures with 20 points with the help of making 14-of-16 free throws. Ebo Smith and Juan Rivas each recorded 16 points while T.J. Williams tacked on 15 points and seven rebounds. Tanner Plemmons and Tyre Gathright combined to score 22 points, 11 apiece. Tyler Dominy tallied six assists.
North Georgia made its first five shots from the field and only trailed twice in the game. The Nighthawks sizzled in the second half as they made 64.3% (18-28) of their shots. North Georgia also made 85.7% (30-35) of its free throw attempts, including 20-of-22 in the first half.
Keshaun Hamilton added 16 points for Flagler while
Nick Grier also tallied 16 points and tacked on five rebounds.
Ben Bobbitt chipped in with 13 points while
Vaughn McCall finished with 10.
The Saints struggled trying to find their perimeter game in the first half making only one of their 15 attempts from long range. Flagler did sink 14 of 16 free throws in the first half and trailed 53-41 at the break. The Saints finished making 20-of-24 from the charity stripe in the game.
Flagler will look to get back into the win column on Saturday (Dec. 19) at Young Harris College at 3:30 p.m.
