ST. AUGUSTINE –
Nick Grier scored 17 of his season-high 26 points in the first half to help Flagler College roll past the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez 111-88 in a non-conference men's basketball game Saturday night at Flagler Gymnasium.
Flagler evened its record at 3-3 while P.R.-Mayaguez, an NCAA Division II independent, fell to 1-5.
Grier made 9-of-12 from the field, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range. He also sank all four free throws and added four steals.
Vaughn McCall came off the bench to add 23 points as he sank four 3-pointers and was 9-of-12 from the free throw line.
Matt Clark chipped in with 19 points and seven assists while
Austin Howard contributed 12 points and five assists in a reserve role.
Keith Gray grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
Flagler shot a season-best 64.7% (33-51) from the field and made 86.1% (31-36) from the free throw line.
The Saints used a 20-1 run late in the first half to pull away and head into the break with a 58-37 lead. The run was part of a 25-10 spread Flagler used in the final seven minutes of the half.
Alexander Curet Lara led the Tarzans with 24 points and six rebounds. Jaime Perez tacked on 17 points and five rebounds while Noel Muniz chipped in with 11 points.
Flagler hosts Ave Maria University on Tuesday (Dec. 1) at 7 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
