Vikings pillage Saints

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Five Western Washington University players scored in double figures in a 92-53 victory over Flagler College in a non-conference men's basketball game Friday night at Whatcom Pavilion on the campus of Whatcom Community College.

Western Washington, a member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and an NCAA Division II power, improved to 4-2. Western Washington won the 2012 Division II national title with a 72-65 win over the University of Montevallo. Flagler fell to 1-2.

The Vikings wasted little time as they jumped out to a 14-0 lead and never looked back.

Jeffrey Parker scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds while Ricardo Maxwell added 14 points, five rebounds and five assists. Mac Johnson tacked on 13 points and eight rebounds while Kyle Impero chipped in with 13 points and four assists. Brett Kingma came off the bench to tally 13 points. Colby Mitchell grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

WWU shot 51.6% (33-64) from the field which included a 60.6% (20-33) mark in the second half. The Vikings out-scored the Saints in the paint 44-28, in points off turnovers (19-8) and fast-break points (17-4).

Vaughn McCall came off the bench to lead the Saints with 14 points, nine of which came in the second half. Nick Grier added eight points while Keshaun Hamilton provided five points and eight rebounds.

Flagler, which traveled over 3,000 miles to take on Western Washington, struggled from the field in the first half shooting just 23.3% (7-30). The Saints finished 33.3% (20-60) for the game.

The Saints trailed at the half, 35-19.

Flagler takes on Portland Bible College (0-6) tomorrow (Nov. 21) at 6 p.m. Eastern at Whatcom Community College to conclude the trip.
