BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Flagler College opened the game on an 18-0 run and never looked back in an 87-48 rout of Portland Bible College in a non-conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Whatcom Pavilion at Whatcom Community College.
Flagler evened its record at 2-2 while Portland Bible, a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association's Division II, is winless through seven games this season. Last year the Wildcats won the West Region of the NCCAA Division II Tournament.
The Saints held the Wildcats to 0-fot-10 shooting from the field in that run and forced six turnovers.
Matt Clark led all scorers with 20 points and he added seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Jeffercy Jean added 10 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals while
Connor Jack provided 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Nick Grier chipped in with nine points, five steals and two blocks.
Ben Bobbitt scored seven points and tallied a game-high six assists.
Jarrod Widdows, a former pitcher on the Flagler baseball team, scored six points, grabbed six rebounds and was one blocked shot shy of tying the school record with six in just 12 minutes of work.
The Saints dominated inside out-rebounding the Wildcats 53-35 and out-scoring them 52-18 in the paint.
Matthew Martin led Portland Bible with 13 points. Tyrell Lee came off the bench to add 11 points while Garrett Williams finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Flagler returns home to face the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras on Wednesday (Nov. 25) at 7:30 p.m.
