Sara Davis recorded a match-high 22 kills and
Megan Hooks added another 16 kills to help lead Flagler to a 3-1 (25-22, 19-25, 25-23, 25-20) win over a stubborn Georgia College side in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match Friday night at Flagler Gymnasium.
With the win, Flagler extends its streak to four matches and improved to 17-5 overall and 10-3 in the Peach Belt. Georgia College has lost six of its last seven matches and fell to 10-13 overall and 4-10 in conference play.
Davis hit .405 for the match with five errors on 42 attempts while Hooks hit .414 with four errors on 29 attempts. Davis also added five total blocks.
Taja Valmyr chipped in with nine kills.
Tara Savisky tallied 53 assists and had four aces while
Ashley Lechleidner-Rodriguez paced the defense with 12 digs.
Taylor Svehla and Ebony Powers had 11 and 10 kills, respectively, to lead the Bobcats. Kayla Brockway tallied 39 assists and had six service aces while Ella Anastasiades collected a match-high 15 digs.
Flagler led by as many as five points (17-12) in the first set and after a net violation by
Rachel Bryant of the Saints, the lead was trimmed to one (22-21). Davis would go on the record three kills around a couple of Bobcat points for a 25-22 win. Bryant led Flagler with five kills in the set.
Georgia College jumped out to a 12-6 lead, but Flagler was able to chip away to pull to within one (17-16) after an attack error by Svehla. The Bobcats reeled off the next four points to prompt a Flagler timeout. Georgia College went on to win 25-19. Powers, who played at nearby Bartram Trail High School, had four kills and hit .800 in the set. Davis had five kills and hit .500.
The third set saw 10 ties and five lead changes. The Bobcats took a 23-22 lead after a kill by Svehla, but Davis answered for the Saints to knot the match at 23. Valmyr followed with a kill to set up set point and then Georgia College's Caroline Long had her attack attempt go out of bounds to give the Saints the set, 25-23. Davis led the way with six kills.
Flagler trailed in the fourth set early, but managed to rally back and take the lead for good (15-14) off of a double-block by Hooks and
Jailene Torres-Lopez. Davis and Valmyr recorded five kills in a closing 5-2 run to give Flagler the set (25-20), and the match.
Flagler hosts Augusta University tomorrow (Oct. 31) at 2 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
