SAVANNAH, Ga. –
Abby Austin netted the only goal for Flagler College in a tough 2-1 loss at Armstrong State University in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Wednesday afternoon at the Armstrong State Soccer Complex.
Armstrong extended its winning streak to six matches and improved to 11-3-2 overall and 7-1-2 in the Peach Belt. Flagler falls to 8-4-2 overall and 5-4-1 in conference play.
After a scoreless half, Armstrong's Sarah Ohlin broke the tie when she knocked in a shot from 30 yards out for the match's first goal in the 64
th minute.
Nearly four minutes later, Ohlin had another shot on goal that was saved by Flagler keeper
Racheal Cecil. However, Jenny Allen was there to collect the rebound and bury the ball in the back of the net to give the Pirates a 2-0 lead in the 68
th minute.
Austin got the Saints on the board in the 70
th minute when she booted in
Katie Reed's cross.
Annie Breen had a chance for the equalizer when she tried to head in
Brooke DeLauder's corner kick in the 80
th minute.
Morgan Luckie recorded two saves for the Pirates while Cecil collected five for the Saints.
Armstrong out-shot Flagler 25-7, but the Saints held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Flagler will close out the regular season on Saturday (Oct. 31) against Georgia College at 1 p.m. at Saints Field. Before the match, Flagler will honor its seniors.
