PEMBROKE, N.C. – Flagler College and the University of North Carolina Pembroke played to a 1-1 double-overtime draw in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Monday afternoon at Varsity Grounds.
This was a make-up of the match which was originally scheduled for Oct. 3, but was postponed due to heavy rain.
Flagler is now 8-3-2 overall and 5-3-1 in the Peach Belt. UNC Pembroke is 7-7-1 overall and 5-3-1 in conference play. Both teams remain tied for fourth place in the conference standings with each having two matches left. On the line is a chance to host a conference tournament quarterfinal match which goes to the top four teams in the league.
Kaela Harmon wasted little time getting the Saints on the board as she scored in the second minute when she headed in
Brooke DeLauder's corner kick.
The Saints had a chance to add to the lead in the 13
th minute, but
Kennedy Singleton's shot hit the crossbar.
Flagler kept the score 1-0 going into the half, but Rae-Shawna Campbell scored the equalizer in the 88
th minute as she knocked in a blocked shot by the Flagler defense.
In the second overtime session, each team had an opportunity to win the match. Amber Watkins of UNCP had her shot hit the crossbar in the 104
th minute and Flagler's
Katie Reed had the same thing happen to her with 34 seconds left to go.
Maddison Lipson recorded four saves for the Saints while Janae Aiken tallied six for the Braves.
Flagler out-shot UNC Pembroke 18-14 and held an 11-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Flagler wraps up its three-match odyssey with a game at Armstrong State University on Wednesday (Oct. 28) at 3:30 p.m. in Savannah, Georgia.
