ST. AUGUSTINE – Things looked promising for Flagler College early when
Katie Reed scored 21 seconds into the match, but No. 17 (NSCAA Division II poll) Columbus State University rallied for two first half goals in route to a 2-1 in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Tuesday afternoon at Saints Field.
Columbus State won its seventh match in a row and improved to 10-2-1 overall and 5-0-1 in the Peach Belt. Flagler had its four-match winning streak halted and dropped to 6-2-1 overall and 4-2-0 in conference play.
Reed scored the quickest first goal in the recorded history of Flagler women's soccer.
Annie Breen lobbed a pass into the box where Reed flicked the ball in over the keeper's head and under the cross bar. The previous record was held by Annika Hogberg who scored 554 second into the match against Brevard College on Nov. 3, 2007.
Shelby Rolling buried a shot in the back of the net in the 21
st minute. Nicole Corcione sent a through ball from the end line to an awaiting Rolling who blasted the shot in from 15 yards out.
About 11 minutes later, Olivia Jarrell booted in a pass from Corcione into the lower left corner of the goal to give Columbus State a 2-1 lead.
Maylyn Parsons tallied one save for the Lady Cougars while
Racheal Cecil recorded six saves for the Saints.
Columbus State out-shot Flagler 11-6, but the Saints held a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
Flagler hosts Lander University on Saturday (Oct. 17) at 5 p.m. at Saints Field.
