Jaguars rally past Saints, 60-56

ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College held a 14-point lead in the first half and led for 31:10 of the game, but Georgia Regents University Augusta rallied late to pull out a 60-56 win in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.

GRU Augusta snapped a seven-game losing streak to improve to 3-14 overall and 2-8 in the Peach Belt. Flagler fell to 4-12 overall and 2-8 in conference play.

Kaniel Hutt scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Jaguars rally. She broke up a 56-all tie with 38 seconds remaining with a layup and then was fouled twice in the waning seconds. Hutt sank one-of-two free throws twice to put the game away.

Tavia Sykes came off the bench to score a game-high 22 points and added five rebounds for GRU Augusta.

The Jaguars trailed 28-23 at the half, but a 53.6% (15-28) shooting percentage from the field in bolstered the comeback.

Treva Mason led the Saints with her seventh double-double of the season with 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Teosha Ray contributed 12 points and eight rebounds while Allie Mano came off the bench to score a career-high 11 points. DeAsha Campbell tacked on six points and a game-high five assists.

Flagler was out-rebounded 36-33 and GRU Augusta corralled 12 offensive rebounds which was turned into 16 points.

The Saints grabbed a quick 21-7 lead after a pair of jumpers by Parker Nayman, but the Jaguars answered with a 15-2 run of its own to pull to within one point (23-22) with 1:43 left in the first half.

Flagler returns to the court on Monday (Jan. 26) for its final non-conference game of the season against Trinity Baptist College at 7 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
