Flagler’s late rally topples Georgia College

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Flagler College closed the game with an 11-0 run to defeat Georgia College 60-53 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Monday afternoon at Centennial Center.

Flagler improved to 4-11 overall and 2-7 in the Peach Belt. Georgia College lost its third game in a row and fell to 7-9 overall and 3-6 in conference play.

Enisha Donley made the second of two free throws with 1:43 left in the game to give the Bobcats a 53-49 lead. That would be the last points Georgia College would score in the game. In fact, the Bobcats missed all of their six shots, four of which were from behind the arc, in the last 5:10 of the game. Georgia College also committed three turnovers in that span.

Flagler took advantage of Georgia College's dry spell. After Donley's free throw, Alex Alford sank a three-pointer to get the Saints to within one point (53-52) with 1:22 left. Alford then picked LaRice Walker's pocket and drained another trey to give Flagler a 55-53 lead with 51 seconds left.

Flagler's DeAsha Campbell followed by getting Donley to turn the ball over with 37 seconds left and Donley had to foul Campbell to stop the clock. Campbell made the first of two free throws to push the Saints lead to 56-53 with 33 ticks left. Walker missed a layup and Flagler's Treva Mason grabbed one of her game-high 13 rebounds with 24 seconds left. Mason was sent to the free throw line where she sank both shots to give the Saints a 58-53 lead.

Shanteona Keys launched a three-pointer for the Bobcats, but Mason was there to corral the errant shot. Teosha Ray went to the free throw line and made both shots with six seconds remaining.

Campbell led the Saints with 15 points and had four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Ray added 12 points and five rebounds. Alford scored all 11 of her points in the second half. She made three 3-pointers. Mason chipped in with nine points.

The Saints shot 50% (13-26) from the field in the second half which helped them rally from a 26-24 halftime deficit. Flagler held a 39-30 edge in rebounding and forced 18 turnovers which led to 22 points.

Donley scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead the Bobcats. Keys added 16 points and six rebounds.

Georgia College struggled from the field shooting just 37.3% (19-51) for the game which included a 33.3% (9-27) clip in the second half.

The game featured 10 ties and 17 lead changes.

This was Flagler's first win at Georgia College since joining the league in 2009-10. The Saints are 2-4 all-time against the Bobcats.

Flagler hosts Georgia Regents University Augusta on Saturday (Jan. 24) at 1:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
