Laker women march past Saints, 90-71

MORROW, Ga. – Yishica Evans scored a game-high 32 points to help lead Clayton State University to a 90-71 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Athletics & Fitness Center.

Clayton State won its third game in a row and sixth in its last seven games to improve to 12-5 overall and 6-2 in the Peach Belt. Flagler fell to 3-11 overall and 1-7 in conference play.

Sims made 11 of her 18 shots from the field, sank three 3-pointers and made 7 of 8 from the free throw line. Shay Upshaw added 14 points and five rebounds while Kenisha Jones-Barrett came off the bench to provide 13 points and dish out a game-high six assists. Kayla Pryce chipped in with 10 points. DaQuenna Moore grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and tacked on six points for the Lakers.

Clayton State shot an efficient 52.3% (34-65) from the field which included a 54.8% (17-31) mark in the first half which led to its 42-28 lead at the half. The Lakers out-scored the Saints inside 50-32 and forced 23 turnovers which were cashed in for 26 points.

Treva Mason recorded her team-high sixth double-double of the season with 16 points and she grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Teosha Ray tallied 16 points, corralled seven rebounds and dished out five assists while backcourt mate Alex Alford tallied 15 points on 5 of 7 shooting from the field.

Flagler shot its second-highest percentage of the season (44.8%).

The Lakers used a short 11-0 run early in the first half to open up a two-point lead. Sims sank a 3-pointer to start the run and she capped it with a transition layup with 13:15 left to give Clayton State a 19-6 lead.

Ray closed the deficit to five (28-23) with a layup, but the Saints could not get any closer.

Flagler will stay on the road for a game on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (Jan. 19) at Georgia College at 1:30 p.m.
