Bearcats down Saints 3-1 in regular season finale

GREENWOOD, S.C. – Taja Valmyr recorded a match-high 17 kills and added 14 digs to complete her sixth double-double of the season, but it wasn't enough as Lander University defeated Flagler College 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-18) in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match Saturday afternoon at the Finis Horne Arena. The match was the regular season finale for both teams.

Lander snapped a three-match losing streak and improved to 21-9 overall and 9-9 in the Peach Belt. Flagler fell to 14-15 overall and 8-10 in conference play. Lander goes into the PBC Tournament as the No. 6 seed while Flagler is No. 7.

Valmyr did most of her damage in the first set, won by the Saints, with seven of her 17 kills. Sara Davis added 15 kills, hit .281 and recorded three total blocks. Amelia Morgan recorded her sixth double-double of the season with a match-high 51 assists and 14 digs. Caitlyn Kovach collected a match-high 21 digs while Ashley Lechleidner-Rodriguez added 18 more.

Sydney Tracy led the Bearcats with 14 kills and four block assists while Tarryn Angermeier recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 10 block assists. She also hit .278 with three errors on 36 swings. Jessica Register flirted with a triple-double as she tallied 42 assists, collected 11 digs and recorded seven block assists.

Flagler will head back to the University of South Carolina Aiken, where it was on Friday, for a quarterfinal match in the PBC Tournament on Tuesday (Nov. 11). The start time will be announced later.
