Jerrell Oxendine poured in a game-high 24 points in Flagler College's 96-70 loss at the University of Central Florida in a men's basketball exhibition game Tuesday night at CFE Arena.
Oxendine made 8-of-his -17 shots from the field in the game including 4-of-8 from 3-point range.
De'Aires Tate recorded a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 17 rebounds for the Saints.
Lydell Manigo chipped in with eight points and seven rebounds.
B.J. Taylor led the Knights with 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting and he added eight rebounds. Staphon Blair tacked on 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting while Daiquan Walker tallied 12 points. Shaheed Davis came off the bench to record a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Adonys Henriquez registered eight assists.
Flagler played Division I (American Athletic Conference) UCF tough for the first 20 minutes, trailing by only five (40-35) at the half. After an Oxendine jumper opened the second half, the Knights went on a 24-9 run over the next 7:21 to pull away with an 18-point (64-46) lead.
UCF out-scored Flagler in the paint 58-28 and cashed in 12 Flagler turnovers into 20 points. However, despite the size disadvantage in the paint, the Saints out-scored the Knights on second chance points 20-11.
UCF shot 60.3% (38-63) from the field which included a blistering 75.9% (22-29) in the second half alone.
Flagler will play one more exhibition game, Nov. 14 at the University of South Florida, before opening the season on Nov. 21 against Clearwater Christian College at Flagler Gymnasium.
