MONTEVALLO, Ala. –
Sara Davis recorded 26 kills, hit .323 and added 10 total blocks as Flagler College split a pair of matches on Saturday at Trustmark Arena. Flagler lost a heartbreaker to the University of Montevallo 3-2 (25-22, 25-21, 21-25, 23-25, 15-9) in a Peach Belt Conference match and then rolled to a sweep (25-18, 25-19, 25-18) over the University of West Georgia.
Flagler is now 13-13 overall and 7-8 in the Peach Belt. Montevallo improved to 17-8 overall and 8-4 in the conference. West Georgia, a member of the Gulf South Conference, fell to 5-19 overall after losing both matches.
Taja Valmyr recorded a season-high 19 kills and added 11 digs to go along with four total blocks in the opener against Montevallo.
Genel Sturgeon added 15 kills and hit a steady .302 with two errors on 43 swings.
Megan Hooks hit an efficient .344 with 12 kills and just one error on 32 swings. She added 10 digs to complete her fourth double-double of the season. Davis chipped in with 10 kills and five block assists.
Caitlyn Kovach collected a season-high 30 digs to pace the defense.
Amelia Morgan tallied 58 assists to go along with 11 digs for her fifth double-double of the year.
Kristy Bohan led Montevallo with a match-high 21 kills and hit .385 with six errors on 39 swings. Katie Best added 17 kills, nine digs and four total blocks while Sarah Guidry tacked on 14 kills and 24 digs. Briana Marquez tallied a match-high 71 assists and added 12 digs to complete the double-double. Rebekah Phelps had 13 kills, 15 digs and five total blocks. Carissa Bell collected a match-high 31 digs.
Against West Georgia, Davis led the way for the Saints with a robust .480 hitting percentage as she had a match-high 15 kills with three errors on 25 swings. She added five block assists. Sturgeon hit a red-hot .368 with 11 kills with four errors on 19 swings. Kovach gathered a match-high 16 digs while Morgan tallied a match-high 42 assists.
Ashley Lechleidner-Rodriguez added 10 digs. Valmyr tacked on nine kills and six digs.
The Saints hit .286 as a team with 46 kills and 18 errors on 98 swings. The defense held West Georgia to a .082 hitting percentage.
Tiffany Ancrum led the Wolves seven kills and hit .462 with only one error on 13 swings. Tiesha Alston added three kills and five block assists. Samantha Drane collected a team-high six digs and Amanda Miller tallied 18 assists.
Flagler is off until Saturday (Nov. 1) when it travels to No. 17 (AVCA Division II Top 25) Armstrong State University for a 5 p.m. match at Savannah, Georgia.
