GREENWOOD, S.C. – Buoyed by a pair of late goals, Lander University defeated Flagler College 3-1 in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Saturday afternoon at the Jeff May Complex.
Lander improved to 6-4-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the Peach Belt. Flagler dropped its fifth consecutive match and now holds a 5-8-1 overall record and a 3-5-0 mark in league play.
Elias Hafungimana scored an unassisted goal with 1:23 left in the first half to give the Bearcats the lead.
Lander scored two goals in just under two minutes apart late in the second half to pull away. Ali Mohamed scored off a pass from Kioki Hutchings in the 78
th minute and then Mohamed assisted on the next goal, finding Zach Acree in front of the net in the 80
th minute to give Lander a 3-0 lead.
Erlend Lofsgaard prevented the shutout by scoring with 2:12 left in the game off a
Caleb Austin assist for the Saints.
Barrett Nielsen recorded one save for Lander while
Lex Craggs tallied two for Flagler.
Lander out-shot Flagler 11-10 and held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Flagler will play its final three regular season matches at home starting with Wednesday's (Oct. 22) contest against Nova Southeastern University at 6 p.m. at Saints Field.
