ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College recorded 16 team blocks in route to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-9) sweep of Georgia Regents University Augusta in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match Friday night at Flagler Gymnasium.
Flagler snapped a two-match losing streak and improved to 9-12 overall and 4-7 in the Peach Belt. GRU Augusta had its seven-match win streak snapped and fell to 17-5 overall and 7-3 in conference play. The Saints split the season series with the Jaguars.
Genel Sturgeon came off the bench to provide a match-high 10 kills on 19 errorless swings for a sizzling .526 hitting percentage. She also recorded six total blocks.
Sara Davis added nine kills on 17 errorless swings for a .529 hitting percentage and she tacked on six total blocks.
Ashley Cheewah recorded eight total blocks, tying her season high which came in the season opener.
Taja Valmyr contributed nine kills and five digs for the Saints.
Amber Peone collected a team-high 12 digs while
Amelia Morgan tallied 29 assists.
Flagler hit .301 for the match with 33 kills and eight errors on 83 swings. The Saints hit .355 (14-3-31) in the first set and .333 (12-2-30) in the third.
Kaila Baptiste led the Jaguars with seven kills. Catherine Desilveste collected a match-high 15 digs while Alyssa Latham tallied 12 assists.
GRU Augusta was held to a -.097 hitting percentage as the Jaguars recorded 23 kills along with 33 errors on 103 swings.
Flagler hosts Georgia College tomorrow (Oct. 18) at 2 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium. Following that match, No. 18 (AVCA Division II Top 25) Palm Beach Atlantic University will take on Georgia College.
