PENSACOLA, Fla. – Tristan Rehrig's goal in the 72
nd minute provided just enough insurance as the University of West Florida held on to defeat Flagler College 3-2 in a non-conference men's soccer match Sunday evening at the UWF Soccer Complex.
West Florida snapped a two-match losing streak and improved to 4-5-2 overall. Flagler lost its third consecutive match and dropped to 5-6-1 overall.
The Saints trailed 2-0 midway through the second half when an Argonaut committed a foul inside the penalty area. That set up a penalty kick by Tristin Hall who immediately converted to get Flagler back into the match.
Four minutes later is when Rehrig netted the insurance goal and West Florida held a 3-1 lead.
That goal proved to be pivotal as
Thomas Gallitz scored an unassisted goal in the 81
st minute to pull Flagler back to within one goal.
Andre Moreira collected four saves for the Argonauts while
Lex Craggs recorded two saves in the first half and
Joey LaSala corralled three more in the second half.
West Florida out-shot Flagler 17-9, but the Saints held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Up next for Flagler is No. 9 (NAIA) Lindsey Wilson College who visits Saints Field on Wednesday (Oct. 15) at 7:30 p.m.
