ST. AUGUSTINE –
Taja Valmyr recorded her second consecutive double-double, and third of the season, with 12 kills and 13 digs in Flagler College's 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 27-25, 25-17) loss to the University of South Carolina Aiken in a Peach Belt Conference women's volleyball match Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.
USC Aiken improved to 13-5 overall and 7-3 in the Peach Belt. Flagler drops to 8-12 overall and 307 in conference play.
Ashley Diedrich led a balanced offensive attack for the Pacers with 12 kills and completed the double-double with 10 digs. Taylor Stratton added 10 kills with three errors on 21 swings for a .333 hitting percentage. Julia Forster came off the bench to add 10 kills. Sheila Walsh recorded a double-double with 36 assists and 10 digs. Katie Toman paced the defense with a match-high 15 digs.
Genel Sturgeon added 10 kills for the Saints.
Caitlyn Kovach and
Ashley Lechleidner-Rodriguez collected 13 and 10 digs, respectively.
Ashley Cheewah recorded six total blocks while
Amelia Morgan tallied 39 assists.
Flagler compiled a .242 hitting percentage, but 15 service errors couple with 12 USC Aiken aces were too much to overcome.
The Saints will close out the home portion of its schedule next weekend with three conference matches starting on Friday (Oct. 17) at 7 p.m. against Georgia Regents University of Augusta. During Sunday's match, Flagler will honor the 2009 final four team.
