ST. AUGUSTINE –
Sara Davis recorded a season-high 20 kills, hit .367 and added six total blocks, but it wasn't enough as Lander University defeated Flagler College 3-2 (25-21, 22-25, 26-24, 16-25, 15-6) in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match Friday night at Flagler Gym.
Lander snapped a three-match losing streak and improved to 13-4 overall and 3-4 in the Peach Belt. Flagler fell to 8-11 overall and 3-6 in conference play.
Kendall Korte recorded a match-high 21 kills and added 18 digs to complete the double-double for the Bearcats. Sydney Tracy tacked on 14 kills while Jessica Register notched a double-double with 48 assists and 23 digs. Sarah Bradley collected a match-high 28 digs. Reyonia Whipple recorded four total blocks.
The Bearcats hit .227 in the fifth and deciding set with eight kills and three errors on 22 swings. Lander tallied 10 aces and was led by Register and Bradley who recorded three apiece.
Taja Valmyr contributed a season-high 16 kills and added 15 digs for her second double-double of the season.
Genel Sturgeon tacked on 15 kills.
Amelia Morgan recorded a double-double with 55 assists and a career-high 20 digs.
Amber Peone and
Ashley Lechleidner-Rodriguez both collected 20 digs.
Caitlyn Kovach chipped in with 19 digs.
Lander reeled off the first six points in the fifth set and never looked back.
Flagler plays host to the University of South Carolina Aiken tomorrow (Oct. 11) at 2 p.m. at Flagler Gym.
