MORROW, Ga. – Zach Shanahan's penalty kick in the 77th minute broke a 3-all tie and No. 4 (NSCAA Division II Top 25) Flagler College escaped with a 5-3 win over Clayton State University in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Saturday night at Laker Field.

Flagler improved to 3-1-1 overall and 2-0-0 in the Peach Belt. Clayton State fell to 3-3-0 and 0-1-0 in league play.

Erlend Lofsgaard started the scoring for the Saints when knocked in a shot that ricocheted off the post in the 15th minute for his first collegiate goal.

Kevin Keenan added to the lead when he scored off of a feed from Joseph Toby in the 22nd minute. Almost four minutes later, Jonny Cosgrove gave Flagler a 3-0 lead.

The Saints would take that advantage into the half.

Clayton State began a furious rally with a goal from Nikola Gazibara in the 57th minute. A little over a minute and a half, Kevin Rodriguez brought the Lakers to within one when his shot found the back of the net.

Ado Junuzovic scored the equalizer on a penalty kick in the 66th minute. Two Saints and one Laker received yellow cards on the play.

But the Saints had plenty of time to quell the Lakers onslaught. A foul in the box in the 77th minute led to Shanahan's goal and Marco Padilla added an insurance goal in the 85th minute.

Camp Bissell tallied seven saves for the Saints while Sean Merfeld recorded five saves for the Lakers.

Flagler out-shot Clayton State 14-12 and held a slight 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Flagler returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 22) at No. 18 Young Harris College at 2:30 p.m.
