SUMTER, S.C. – The Flagler College men's tennis team played in the USTA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Southeast Regional Championships last weekend at the Palmetto Tennis Center. The tournament was interrupted by rain and many of the final matches were conducted on home courts.

In the singles “A” draw, Jose Martinez won a pair of matches to advance to the Round of 16 where he lost to Olivier Simonet of Columbus State University 6-4 and 6-2. Martinez opened with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Ignacio Casali of Queens University of Charlotte  and triumphed over No. 15 Carlos Yanes of Limestone College 7-5 and 6-2.

Peter Coulis split his two matches as he earned a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Jan Labas of Augusta State University. He went on to lose to Christiaan Lee-Daigle of Queens.

Gino Ramirez was Flagler's lone seeded player, at No. 14, and he rolled to a straight set win over Kasper Konyves of Georgia College 6-0 and 6-3. Jean-Michel Blouin of Armstrong pulled off the upset of Ramirez in the Round of 32 by the scores of 6-1 and 6-2.

In the singles “B” draw, Adam Hunt received a bye into the Round of 32 where he defeated Houston Callaway of Lees-McRae 6-0 and 6-1. Hunt also bested Mario Mesquita of North Georgia in the Round of 16 6-1 and 6-0, but Hunt couldn't go any further as the team departed for home due to the inclement weather causing matches to get backed up.

Samuel Mkrtychev won his first round match against Marcelo Tatai of Lees-McRae 7-6 and 6-2. Four players were defeated in the Round of 32.

In doubles “A” play, No. 7 Gino Ramirez and Jose Martinez opened with an 8-4 win over Mateus Camasmie and Felipe Friedrich of North Georgia, but fell in the next round to Abdoulaye Camara and Daniel Gonzales of Anderson.

In the “B” doubles, the duo of Skyleer Engel and Stephan Stolz posted an 8-6 win over Max Desmars and Stefan Klemenz of Lander.
