ST. AUGUSTINE – No. 16 (Campbell's/ITA Division II Rankings) Flagler College edged No. 13 Francis Marion University 5-4 in a Peach Belt Conference women's tennis match Saturday afternoon at the Flagler Tennis Center.

Flagler won its fourth match in a row and improved to 7-2 overall and 6-1 in the Peach Belt. Francis Marion dropped to 9-4 and 5-3 in the conference.

The Saints opened the day winning two-of-three doubles matches. Veronica Figueroa (Orlando, Fla., Cypress Creek HS) and Jennifer Saviano (Davie, Fla., St. Thomas Aquinas HS) won 8-0 over Caitlin Siney and Rachel Gaster. Deon Miller (Miami, Fla., Dr. Michael Krop HS) and Gabby Scammacca (Sugarloaf Key, Fla. , Key West HS) edged Kerry Hall and Kimberley Hurter 9-7 and No. 3 doubles. The No. 5 ranked doubles team of Jitka Gavdunova and Mona Blauen downed Lauren Pfeiffer (Fort Pierce, Fla., Florida Gulf Coast Univ.) and Rachel Gould (Toronto, Ontario, Vaughan Road Academy) 8-2.

Miller's 7-6 (7-2) and 7-5 win at No. 3 singles over Hurter proved to be the deciding match in favor of Flagler. Gavdunova and Blauen each won in straight sets at Nos. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Saviano won 6-0 and 6-2 over Siney at No. 3 singles. Gould won in straight sets over Gaster at No. 5 singles, her sixth win in a row.

Flagler returns home tomorrow (Mar. 27) against UNC Pembroke at 12 p.m.
