Box Score

ST. AUGUSTINE – Pol Berenguer's (Barcelona, Spain, St. Augustine (Fla.) HS) goal in the 45th minute proved to be the deciding factor as No. 17 (NSCAA Division II Top 25) Flagler College defeated Clayton State University 2-1 in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Saturday night at Saints Field.

With the win, Flagler clinched the conference's regular season title, its second title in three years of competition in the league. The Saints extended its winning streak to seven matches and improved to 12-3-1 overall and 6-1-1 in the Peach Belt. Clayton State suffered its second consecutive loss and its fourth-in-its-last-five matches and fell to 8-6-0 overall and 3-4-0 in the conference. All six losses by the Lakers this season have been by one goal. Only three of Clayton State's 14 matches have been decided by more than one goal.

The Lakers got on the board first when Janny Rivera booted in a direct kick from 30 yards ou in the 8th minute.

Joseph Toby (Jacksonville, Fla. (Freetown, Sierra Leone), Wolfson HS) scored the equalizer when he knocked in Johan Bergfeld's (Akers Styckebruk, Sweden, Rekarnegymnasiet) deflected shot in the 41st minute.

Berenguer snuck one in just before the end of the first half when he booted in Toby's cross in front of the goal box. There were 38 seconds left in the half.

Mack Hough had a chance at an insurance goal in the 78th minute, but his header was swept out by a Laker defender.

Camp Bissell (Orlando, Fla., Timber Creek HS) tallied three saves for the Saints while Brian Garcia also recorded three saves for the Lakers.

Flagler out-shot Clayton State 18-15, and 6-4 in shots on goal. The Lakers held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Clayton State committed 18 fouls while Flagler was whistled for 14.

Flagler faces No. 21 (NAIA) Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. at Daytona Beach to wrap-up the regular season.
