ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Flagler College men' tennis team moved up one spot to No. 15 according to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Division II Top 50 which was released this afternoon. Flagler was ranked No. 16 in the Mar. 30 poll.
Flagler (14-8) defeated No. 35 Limestone Thursday morning in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Tournament at Savannah, Ga. Flagler faces No. 13 Francis Marion University for the third time this season tomorrow at 10 a.m. in a quarterfinal match.
The Saints are one of eight Peach Belt schools ranked in the top 50. Two-time defending national champion Armstrong Atlantic is ranked second while Columbus State University is No. 10. The rest are as follows: 12) Georgia College & State University; 13) Francis Marion University; 14) Lander University; 15) Flagler; 18) Augusta State; and, 26) USC Aiken.
David Cotrone (Bradenton, Fla./Bradenton Christian) dropped six spots to No. 10 in the top 50 singles players in Division II. He is 17-3 at No. 1 singles this year and holds a 4-3 mark against nationally ranked players and is 7-3 against regionally ranked players. He and his doubles teammate,
Gino Ramirez (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Dr. Michael Krop HS), remain ranked ninth, nationally, in doubles. The duo are 14-7 overall and are 4-4 against nationally ranked doubles teams and 5-5 against regionally ranked tandems.
Flagler is ranked sixth in the Southeast Region for the second consecutive month. Cotrone is No. 5, in singles play, in the region. Cotrone and Ramirez are No. 4 in doubles play, in the region.
