JONESBORO, Ga. – No. 13 (ITA Division II) Francis Marion University defeated No. 22 Flagler College 5-3, in a quarterfinal match of the Peach Belt Conference's Women's Tennis Championships Friday afternoon at the Clayton County Tennis Center.

Francis Marion advances to the semifinal round and improve to 16-4. Flagler is now 14-7 and will see if it qualifies for an at-large berth in one of the two upcoming NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Tournaments.

The Patriots took two-of-the-three doubles matches, both wins going to their nationally ranked tandems. Second-ranked Tereza Sykorova and Sabina Baberadova blanked Lauren Pfeiffer (Fort Pierce, Fla./Florida Gulf Coast U.) and Chelsi de Cuba (Fort Pierce, Fla./Vero Beach HS) 8-0 at No. 1. The 13th-ranked duo of Jitka Gavdunova and Mona Blauen defeated Veronica Figueroa (Orlando, Fla./Cypress Creek HS) and Jennifer Saviano (Davie, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas HS) 8-3 at No. 2. Rachel Gould (Toronto, Ontario/Vaughan Road Academy) and Chelsea Taylor (Bradenton, Fla./Bradenton Prep Academy) helped avoid the sweep with their 8-1 victory over Kerry Hall and Karine Augur.

Deon Miller (Miami, Fla./Dr. Michael Krop HS) and Taylor posted the lone wins for the Saints in singles play. Miller handled Hall 6-3 and 6-4 at No. 5 singles while Taylor rolled to a 6-0 and 6-0 win over Augur at No. 6.
