ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − Flagler College first baseman Billy Johnson (Cocoa Beach, Fla./Brevard CC) helped lead the Space Coast Titans to the 2007 Stan Musial state championship yesterday and the team will advance to the regional tournament tomorrow at the Roger Dean Stadium Complex in Jupiter, Fla. The winner of the regional will advance to play in the Stan Musial World Series Aug. 15-19 at Sam Houston State University's Don Sanders Stadium in Huntsville, Texas.

The Titans were awarded the championship of the losers' bracket when their opponent, the St. Petersburg Roughriders, was found to have an illegal player. Space Coast advanced to the championship game against the St. Petersburg Black Sox, who chose not to play, thus giving the title to the Titans. Both the Black Sox and the Titans will participate in the regional tournament on Thursday.

The Titans finished the Florida Space Coast Baseball League season with a 15-1 record. They did not play in the league's playoffs, choosing to participate in the state and regional tournaments instead.

Johnson, a junior this past season at Flagler, batted .284 with 38 hits, nine doubles, three home runs and 16 runs batted in. He played in 43 games and started 39 and the Saints posted a 25-27 record in its first season playing as a provisional NCAA Division II member.

The Space Coast Titans are comprised of players Cocoa, Cocoa Beach, Melbourne, Palm Bay, Satellite Beach and Titusville.

The Stan Musial Division is affiliated with the American Amateur Baseball Congress, the nation's largest amateur baseball organization for players above junior baseball age. The division has no age limit (18+) and uses wood bats only. There can be no more than five ex-professional players on one team.
