Sophie Wheeler of the women’s golf team was named Athlete of the Month, sponsored by St. Augustine Inn, for the month of March.

Wheeler was named player of the week on March 21.

(From March 21 release) Wheeler won her second tournament of the season and third of her career with medalist honors at the Jerry Surrat Invitational. The Billericay, England native fired rounds of 73-72-73 to finish at two-over par 218, two strokes ahead of her nearest competitor. She led the field with 41 pars; she also added five birdies and a final round eagle to her card. Her second-round 72 tied for the low round of the day and she was the only golfer to shoot 73 or lower in all three rounds. She was selected as the Peach Belt Conference Golfer of the Week.. Wheeler moves into third in the PBC with a 75.72 stroke average.
