Katelynn Smith of the softball team was selected as the Academy Bus Athlete of the Week, for the period ending April 23.

Smith posted a 1-0 record with a microscopic 0.78 earned run average to help the Saints reach the Peach Belt Conference Tournament final. She logged nine innings in two relief appearances last weekend. Smith allowed just six hits and one run. She was spectacular in the Flagler's semifinal win over Armstrong State. Smith came on in relief with two outs in the bottom of the seventh with the score tied at 1-all and runners at first and second. She retired that batter to get out of the inning and kept the Pirates off the scoreboard as the Saints won 2-1 in 12 innings. She scattered four hits and induced eight ground outs and right fly outs. Later that day, Smith came on in relief in the championship game and tossed 3 2/3 innings, allowed two hits and one run. She retired another eight batters on ground outs.

For the season, Smith is 9-7 with a 2.29 ERA, which ranks sixth in the PBC. She has made 24 appearances with 17 starts and has logged 113 1/3 innings in the circle.
