Ms. Patty Canakaris, a seasoned advocate for education and athletics, brings a wealth of experience and passion to the Saints Advisory Board. Raised in Daytona Beach and with a major in Physical Education, Patty's career seamlessly blended her love for sports and community service. Post-retirement in 1988, she served as a Volunteer Administrator for the DeKalb County Cooperative Extension Service and later as the Executive Director of The Atlanta Clean City Commission under Mayor Andrew Young. Ms. Patty's commitment to environmental education earned her the prestigious Environmental Educator of the Year award from the Soil Conservation Service, thanks to her work directing a transformative week-long workshop for teachers.
In the late 1980s, Patty relocated to St. Augustine, where chance encounters with Flagler Baseball games led to her involvement with the Saints Club, at the invitation of Coach Barnett. Inspired by Flagler College's mission, she embraced the goal of attracting students of character seeking a quality education intertwined with competitive college athletics. Her dedication to community service continued in St. Augustine, where she played a pivotal role in securing a $3,000,000 grant for The Office of Children and Families through grant writing and advocacy. Flagler Baseball recognized Patty's outstanding contributions, honoring her with the prestigious Red Cox Award. Her journey from Daytona Beach to St. Augustine has spanned 34 years, and she remains a proud and integral part of the vibrant community she now calls home.
