Brian Marvin

  • Title
    Saints Club Advisory Board
Mr. Marvin and his wife Marion made St. Augustine their home in 2021 after an extensive nationwide search for the perfect retirement location. Having been a former NCAA Division III athlete, Brian sought a quality college community that would support and enhance his retirement years. Flagler College not only met but exceeded their expectations, providing a vibrant atmosphere and a thriving athletic community. Brian's impressive career includes 32 years of active-duty service as a US Coast Guard Captain. Following his military career, he transitioned into college administration, specializing in Public Safety. Throughout both careers, Brian found time to coach basketball and lead boosters at both high school and college levels, emphasizing his dedication to sports and community engagement. One of the key aspects that drew Brian to Flagler College is the Saints' emphasis on character and sportsmanship, coupled with a commitment to maintaining competitive and exciting teams. This aligns seamlessly with his values as a former athlete and coach. In his leisure time, Brian enjoys the downtown lifestyle of St. Augustine, relishing in its great food, rich culture, and the proximity of Flagler College, all within walking distance. Additionally, he finds joy in fishing the inland waters and golfing at Marsh Creek. Brian's commitment to education is evident in his Master's Degree in Education from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. His coaching experience spans across different states, coaching basketball at Petaluma HS in California for two seasons and at the US Coast Guard Academy (D3) in New London, Connecticut, for four seasons. Notably, Brian chaired the Santa Rosa (California) Junior College Athletic Trust, supporting 16 intercollegiate sports, before joining the Flagler College Saints Club Advisory Board. While Brian has lived in 10 states during his career, he considers Charleston, Illinois, his hometown, having played high school basketball and football there before entering the military.
