Tyler Barnett enters his third season as an assistant coach at Flagler. His primary responsibilities will be hitting, base running, working with the infielders and overseeing the strength training program.
An all-Ohio Valley Conference shortstop at NCAA Division I Eastern Kentucky University, he led the Colonels in at bats, hits and runs scored. Barnett was also a Coastal Plains League All-Star in the summer of 2006 while playing for the Florence (S.C.) Red Wolves. The following summer he set a team record with 38 stolen bases playing for the Hays (Kan.) Larks of the Jay hawk League. He helped lead the Larks to the championship game of the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita, Kan. Barnett was an honorable mention all-state shortstop at St. Augustine High School and then played two years at Lake-Sumter Community College in Leesburg, Fla.
Barnett was a 21st Round selection of the Atlanta Braves in the 2008 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. He spent two seasons in the organization playing in both the Gulf Coast and Appalachian Leagues. He earned his bachelor's degree from EKU and an associates degree from LSCC.
Barnett resides in St. Augustine with his wife, Avery.
