ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The No. 20 Flagler College men's lacrosse team defeated Lander University 12-7 in their second Peach Belt Conference bout this afternoon at the Flagler Lacrosse Field.
Expanding their three game lead, the Saints moved up to 8-4 overall while the Bearcats fell to 5-7. The Saints will travel to Virginia State University on Wednesday, Apr. 1 at 12 p.m.
Going into halftime tied 4-4, the Saints' defense held strong, forcing a shutout while dropping five in the third period. During the period, starting goalie
Jonah Smith only needed to make one save, facing just three shots. Smith finished the game seven saves.
Ty Scheckenbach had a full game, causing a match high three turnovers while scooping two ground balls. 11 different Saints caused at least on turnover, with
Ben Nyberg finishing with two. Smith,
Will Linko and
Tyler Hayden finished with a team high three ground balls.
The Saints offense was spearheaded by the trio of Link,
Jack Pilla and
Trace McDonald. The match's facilitator, McDonald had a match high five points, four of which were assists. Pilla and Linko each registered a hat trick. Firing on all cylinders, the Saints out shot the Bearcats, 58-27.
