SAVANNAH, Ga. – Flagler College headed up to Savannah State University in a non-conference doubleheader. The Saints lost 4-3 in eight innings in game one and won 4-2 in the second game Wednesday afternoon at Lady Tiger Field.
Flagler left with a 3-10 record and Savannah State is now 9-3. Flagler will be at home on Saturday for a non-conference doubleheader against Palm Beach Atlantic University at 12 p.m.
In the second game, the Saints pushed across two runs in the fifth inning to tie it up. With two outs
Emily Ricci got hit by pitch to start the rally.
Olivia Burns hit a single to shortstop to advance Ricci to second.
Hannah Smith singled to shallow left field to score Ricci while advancing to second and moving Burns to third. Another singled to left field by
Kiley McQuillan scored Burns to tie the game 2-2.
Chloe Montalvo reached on error to shortstop to score
Stephanie Daly in the sixth to put the Saints up 3-2. She hit a sacrifice fly to score Smith in the seventh to go up 4-2.
Ava Matthews (2-2) came in and pitched three scoreless innings to win the game. She had four strikeouts and retired nine of the 12 batters she faced.
McQuillan went 2-for-4 with two singles and a run batted in. Daly collected three singles and scored a run. Burns hit two singles and scored a run.
Aaliyah Martin (2-2) took the loss for the Lady Tigers. She surrendered three runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts.
The Lady Tigers got on the board in the first inning with a double to center by Kaitlyn Williams to score their only two runs.
In the first game, The Saints got hot in the first inning with a leadoff single by Ricci, followed by a single by Burns. McQuillan had a fielder's choice to get on first. Daly came up and singled to right field scoring both Ricci and McQuillan making it 2-0.
Daly reached on a fielder's choice to score another run making increase Flagler's lead to 3-1 in the fifth inning.
After scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth, the Milani Dunning hit a leadoff single to center to start the bottom of the eighth. She advanced to second on a ground out, and scored on a single to left center to end the game.
Donnea Allen (5-1) got the win as she allowed three runs on eight hits with five strikeouts. Allen got 10 batters to fly out and six more to ground out.
Riley Rowe (1-6) went eight innings and allowed four runs on six hits with four strikeouts to get the loss for the Saints.
Daly went 2-for-4 with two singles and three RBI.
