CLEVELAND, Ohio - Flagler College finished in 47
th place in the final Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings for NCAA Division II members, which were released Tuesday afternoon. The ranking is the second-highest mark Flagler has achieved since moving to NCAA Division II. The best finish was last year when it tied for 41
st place.
The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Director of Athletics (NACDA) and
USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
Flagler tallied a total of 378.25 points, 275.25 from spring sports postseason appearances and the other 103 from the fall. The men's tennis team earned 90 points after reaching the championship match and the women's golf team accounted for 73 more for reaching the quarterfinal round. Women's tennis added another 50 points after advancing to the Round of 32. Softball contributed 37.5 points and women's lacrosse tallied 25 points for advancing to the regionals. In the fall, women's cross country earned 51 points while the men's team had 27 points. The women's soccer team tallied 25 points.
The University of North Georgia led the Peach Belt Conference members with 410 points and finished in 35
th place. Lander University (309.5) followed Flagler. The remainder of the conference was Augusta University (224), Columbus State University (213), Georgia Southwestern State University (82), Georgia College & State University (64), USC Aiken (55), and Clayton State University (50).
Grand Valley State University won its 16
th consecutive title with 983 points. The University of University finished in second place with 901.25 points.
