Saints open PBC Tournament play on Wednesday

ST. AUGUSTINE – The Flagler College men's basketball team finished in fourth place in the Peach Belt Conference and will be that seed in the league's tournament that begins on Wednesday at the Convocation Center in Aiken, South Carolina. Flagler will take on the No. 5 seed Augusta University in the final quarterfinal game at 7:30 p.m.

The winner of the Flagler-Augusta game will take on the winner of the USC Aiken-Georgia College & State University game at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Tickets have to be purchased in advance on-line at https://peachbeltconference.org/sports/2020/10/14/tickets.aspx. General admission, per day, is $10. Children aged five and under are free. PBC students will be admitted free with a valid identification from that school. Peach Belt Sports Passes with photo ID will be accepted.

Flagler finished the regular season with an 18-10 overall record and it posted an 11-7 mark in conference play. The Saints are one of the hottest team in the league as they are riding a five-game winning streak. Augusta posted a 17-11 overall record with a 10-8 mark in league play. The Jaguars won eight of their last 10 games.

Flagler and Augusta split the two games this season, each winning at home. The Saints won 75-62 at Flagler Gymnasium on Jan. 17, but the Jaguars won 84-68 on Feb. 14 at Christenberry Fieldhouse. Omar Figueroa led the Saints with an 18.0 points per game average against Augusta. Destin Clark averaged 17.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. Jalen Barr averaged 12.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game while Jax Bouknight averaged 10.0 points and 3.5 assists per game. Pacing Augusta in the two games was Demitri Gardner. He averaged 18.0 points per game. Ja'Queze Kirby averaged 16.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per contest. John St. Germain III made 80 percent of his shots from the field and averaged 11.5 points per game.

Clark leads the Saints, and is seventh in the PBC, in scoring (16.9 ppg). Figueroa is 11th in the conference with a 15.5 ppg average and Bryant is 14th with a 14.2 ppg mark. Clark and Barr rank 7th and 10th in the PBC in rebounding at 6.9 and 6.5 per game, respectively. Clark is fourth in field goal percentage (.500) and Bryant is eighth in free throw percentage (.815). Figueroa's 36 percent three-point field goal percentage is second in the PBC and 2.8 made three-pointers per game leads the league. Bouknight is fifth in assists per game (3.4) and Barr is sixth in steals per game (1.6).

Gardner is fourth in the PBC in scoring with a 17.4 ppg average for the Jaguars. Max Amadasun and Kirby rank second and fourth in rebounding with 10.1 and 7.5 per game, respectively. Amadasun is third in field goal percentage (.529) and Kirby is fifth in three-pointer made per game (2.1). Amadasun is fourth in the league in blocks per game (1.4).

This will be Flagler's fifth appearance in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament. The Saints won the tournament in 2021, the same year the team advanced to the NCAA Division II final four. Flagler is 4-3 all-time in the tournament and two of those losses came against Augusta (2022 final and 2023 quarterfinal). Both losses were at Augusta. The Jaguars lead the all-time series 24-8.
